Garden Newsletter

December 2009
I can’t believe its December already. Last month the children planted Green beans, Wild flowers and sunflowers. This month we will be planting flowers in the Peace Garden.  They also have been great helpers with taking care of the environment. They have been picking up trash and sweeping the patios around the school. We also will be stringing cranberries and popcorn as a special treat for the birds. There are many new and exciting works being introduced into the garden outdoor environment. The children will be very busy for the next few weeks.
p.s. Please don’t forget to bring in your kinder journals.

What an exciting first few weeks of gardening. The lady bug rocks came out adorable. This week the children began planting sweet corn and have been busy learning how to take care of the environment. They also have been watering the plants around the school. Remember your child must wear closed toed shoes to school especially on their gardening day. Parents thank you so much for bringing in seeds, soil, peat pots and other items needed to make are garden beautiful.
Kindergarteners don’t forget to bring in your composition notebook.

Hello
My name is Ms. Sarah I am the new Garden teacher for Mission Montessori on the Desert, this is my 4th year at the school and my 11th year in a Montessori environment. During the summer vacation I took a Master Gardener class and have learned so many new and exciting things to share with the children. I also have been working with Ms. Karin at the other campus preparing my lesson plans for the 2009-2010 school year. Throughout the year I will be posting on this webpage items needed for upcoming projects for example, items like newspapers, pinecones, egg shells and egg cartons.  The first few weeks the children will be painting river rock lady bugs and planting seeds. PLEASE bring in a packet of seeds any kind will do. I would also love if the children could bring in Peat-Pots.Â
Kindergarteners please bring in a composition notebook.  Â
