Ms. Diana's Master Gardening Class

The heat is on, but we’re putting in some time in our gardens! Classes are currently running for 30 minutes at a time and many of the children are bringing their own water bottles out to the garden area with them, or walking to the water fountain when they need a drink.

As it is too hot to plant, we’re focusing on basic garden knowledge: rules and tools in week one showed the students how to properly use various tools in the garden, with a little bit of time to practice and explore in the garden beds. In week two, we’ve made mud pies while observing how to add just the right amount of water to the soil, and seeing what too much water looks like!

In the garden with Ms. Sarah
As many of you have come to find out, I am no longer working in the garden at Mission. When I returned from the Montessori conference, I decided to take my infant toddler training and Monday morning I requested a Toddler classroom for the 2010-2011 school years.  A position opened less than 10 hours later and I began my new position as lead teacher in the toddler classroom at north. Not to worry Ms. Diana has graciously taken over the responsibility in the garden and with be teaching gardening in the outdoor environment. If there are any questions, you can still get in touch with me through the website.
Sincerely,
Ms. Sarah

Hello

My name is Ms. Sarah I am the new Garden teacher for Mission Montessori on the Desert, this is my 4th year at the school and my 11th year in a Montessori environment. During the summer vacation I took a Master Gardener class and have learned so many new and exciting things to share with the children. I also have been working with Ms. Karin at the other campus preparing my lesson plans for the 2009-2010 school year. Throughout the year I will be posting on this webpage items needed for upcoming projects for example, items like newspapers, pinecones, egg shells and egg cartons.  The first few weeks the children will be painting river rock lady bugs and planting seeds. PLEASE bring in a packet of seeds any kind will do. I would also love if the children could bring in Peat-Pots.
