Hello, my name is Ms. Macias. I am eager to share this school year with you and your child. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have lived in Arizona all my life; I grew up here in the valley then moved to Northern Arizona. I came back to the valley to pursue my passion and teach Montessori curriculum here at Mission Montessori.
Before I was introduced to Montessori, I worked in human resources for several years here in the valley. I left the company to further my education and received my Bachelor’s degree in biology, anthropology, and education. While attending university I worked and volunteered with several schools and explored each distinct teaching philosophy. I began by volunteering at a public school in a special education class for ages 3-8.
Then I became a teacher’s assistant at a Waldorf school for 4th and 5th grade students and also ran the aftercare program for all ages. I mentored junior high school students at North Point Academy Preparatory located in Prescott Arizona. My experience with a variety of academic institutions led to my senior pre-thesis research at Northern Arizona University which entailed analyzing the effectiveness of Arizona Schools for the Deaf and Blind (ASDB) programs in public schools within the Coconino County. Finally, I worked for a Montessori school in Flagstaff.
“My experience with several teaching philosophies, as well as my classroom experience with various age groups, led me to believe that the Montessori philosophy has the greatest and deepest impact on various types of learners. I quickly went and got my training as an E2 Montessori teacher with Houston Montessori Center AMS.”
After extensive preparation, this will be my second year as a lead teacher. I am excited and confident that it will be packed full of learning, growing, and experiencing new and fun adventures. I am overjoyed by the opportunity to get to know your child and experience with you (as a parent/guardian) the transformation of your child in becoming true successful leaders of tomorrow. I hope you are as excited as I am for the 2015-2016 school year.

Why do you teach montessori?
I teach Montessori because it is the best education for a wide range of learners. Also, it’s the most effective philosophy of teaching a child holistically and truly preparing a new generation that is not only academically sound, but emotionally and socially.
